Beta Alanine - The Buffering Amino Acid

Beta-alanine represents a specific amino acid that was once thought to have no significant effect on the body. Many studies have shown us that this was a big mistake because they revealed that due to its specific form and properties, Beta-Alanine has the ability to reduce or slow down the process of acidity increase in muscles - meaning it acts as a "buffer".

In addition, beta-alanine is a precursor to carnosine. Carnosine is a dipeptide composed of histidine and beta-alanine. Like creatine, carnosine is also concentrated in muscle tissue. There is slightly more of it in white (fast) muscle fibers, which are responsible for lifting heavy weights.

During training, metabolic waste products are produced, which slowly prevent muscle contraction. This can lead to muscle failure. The most common waste product present is lactic acid, which increases the concentration of H+ hydrogen ions. This is where the well-known "burn" effect comes in, which signifies intense muscle pain.
